Éric Duyckaerts (1953–2019) was a Belgian artist known for performances, videos, and lectures combining philosophy, comedy, improvisation, and linguistic play. Trained in philosophy, law, and visual art, Duyckaerts often adopted the persona of a lecturer or eccentric professor, addressing subjects ranging from logic and analogy to soap bubbles, the advantages of a two-thumbed hand, and how to draw a square.

This vinyl release brings together a selection of Duyckaerts’ songs and a lecture prepared for radio.

Among the featured works is "Kant," which casts Duyckaerts as a foul-mouthed suburban rapper directing a series of insults at the German philosopher. "Between Us" is a love song about the circulation of disposable lighters. "Piano" documents an improvised piano performance filmed by Olivier Lukaszcyk.

The collection also includes "Radio Tickets," a series of short recordings made for a 1994 residency organized by Catherine Arthus-Bertrand and subsequently broadcast on a local pirate radio station in Nevers, France.

Designed by Maja Larsson, the release consists of a colored vinyl LP in a custom fluorescent yellow jacket, an 8-page booklet featuring a text and translations of Duyckaerts’ lyrics by Julien Bismuth, and a custom lighter.

Éric Duyckaerts was born in Liège, Belgium, in 1953 and died in Bordeaux, France, in 2019. He studied law and philosophy at the University of Liège before participating in the first session of the Institut des Hautes Études en Arts Plastiques in Paris, under the direction of Pontus Hultén. In 1980, Duyckaerts co-founded Groupov, an experimental theater collective based in Liège.

Selected solo exhibitions and presentations include MAC VAL, Vitry-sur-Seine (2011); Centre Pompidou, Paris (2011); FRAC Pays de la Loire (2002); and La Verrière, Fondation d’entreprise Hermès, Brussels (2001). Selected group exhibitions include MoMA PS1, New York (2010); Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (2009); Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (2009); de Appel, Amsterdam (2009); Barbican Art Gallery, London (2008); and Tate Modern, London (2008). Duyckaerts represented Belgium at the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007.
